Team Reflection on Kaizen
KaiZen is a Japanese word that means improving to the better. It is a lifestyle where we focus to strike better and better each day. By improving each day we are gaining more skills being more perfect each day, eliminating those that are useless and improving our performance. In conclusion, Kaizen is about improving our skills each day to aim for perfection and eliminating all the useless things. Kaizen is mostly also known as 5S kaizen Principle. The first S is Seiri (Sort, clear out) which means to let go everything we love and things that we longer don’t need. The second S is Seiton (Set things in order) which means to organize things. By organizing things we can be aware of which direction are we going. The third S is Seiso (Clean and Shine) it helps to increase your self-awareness on impacting others. The fourth S is Sieketsu (Standardize) it sets standards for cleanliness and tidiness in every tasks we are doing. And lastly, the fifth S is Shitsuku (Self-discipline) it is about behavior change and achievement motivation. Also it is about holding your personality and accountable. In our group we use this 5S Kaizen principle as the basis of all the things we do. We try to improve every single thing we do by studying all the mistake from the previous tasks and strike for perfection. Because we know that improvement can’t happen by a second, it took so much experience and a long time study to finally reach the perfection point. Kaizen have been a big role in our group. It changes us from the very beginning until now. At first we have so much difficulty and confusion in facing problems. But as time pass we adapt more and understand more about Kaizen which really help us to solve our problem. Kaizen helps us to understand that the problems we are facing is there to improve us. To make us better and better each time. Kaizen have affect our learning style and most of our individual personality. At first there are some of us that are lazy, slow learners, so quiet, and unorganized. But as time pass, we keep on helping each other, improving ourselves to be better each time, and now we have reach the point where all of us are all equal. They are now engaging in the group and they are not slow learners anymore. Kaizen improves us in so many
ways it improves our five skills (initiative, self-discipline, organization, teamwork, and leadership). Even some of us have excel beyond our limits. Kaizen have make a great impact in each of our lives. At last we can conclude that Kaizen is similar to the saying “Practice makes perfect”. By practicing every single day, and studying from the past, we can strike for perfection and improve greatly by time.
